Brushless Motor Info
The name says it all Brushless RC Motors have no “brushes” or mechanical contacts, this results in a motor that is much more powerful and efficient than the brushed variety. Brushless motors use two basic parts to make the motor operate, permanently mounted magnets and windings of thin copper wire that become electromagnets when energized…more
Brushless Motor Ratings
Brushless motor ratings seem to have a lot of people confused out there. I will try to simplify things so you will understand how to see if the brushless motor that you are thinking about is the correct one for your RC vehicle. Below I will explain Kv, Motor turns, Watts, Amps….more
Project Extreme Evader EXT2
I have just purchased a brushed Duratrax Evader EXT2 1/10th Scale Stadium Truck
(only $116 RTR) so I could upgrade it to brushless and document the process with pictures, tutorials and videos. This is a great RTR Truggy right out of the box but of course I can’t leave anything stock…..more
Upgrade Parts List for Brushless Evader EXT2
I have had a lot of people ask me what upgrades I recommend getting for the Duratrax Evader EXT2 so I decided to get a list together of some of the main upgrades that I have come across. I list the Duratrax Part #s and some links to aftermarket parts to help you get the most out of your upgraded Brushless Evader EXT2……..more
Project Dual Brushless E-Maxx Insanity
Project dual Brushless E-Maxx – My first intro to Brushless Motors took me from a stock Traxxas E-Maxx to a Insane Dual Brushless E-Maxx project…….. Now let me tell you first of all Traxxas makes a great product but there was a slight size difference between my E-Maxx and the Honda Civic that ran over the front of it…..more
How to Solder
Some of the Sensored Motor/ESC Combos out there will require you to use Solder Tabs or Leads in order to connect the Motor, ESC, and Batteries. Although this is a very common thing in RC Hobbies, not everyone knows how to Solder correctly. Solder Tabs are not as popular as pre-connected leads are in RC however if you do run across any here is a how to solder guide to help you along……more
Brushless vs Nitro
For as long as I can remember when I was growing up Nitro was always the “Big Dog” on the block. My friends and I all had brushed electric cars and trucks and whenever we saw a Nitro guy around we knew that we would be beaten before the racing ever began….Then along came Brushless Motors in RC and the game was changed, now even long term Nitro fans have started to switch sides. Brushless has many advantages over Nitro.…..more
Here is an awesome video of the new Traxxas XO-1 it is a 1/7th Scale Super Powered Brushless RTR Car that has some crazy specs: 0-60 in 2.3 seconds. 0-100 in 4.92 seconds. Top speed over 100mph!
But only after you UNLOCK it with a I-Phone or I-Pod. To do this you need to check out the instructions that come with the XO-1 and download the Traxxas AP. Then you would connect your I-Phone or I-Pod to your Transmitter and unlock all of the features.
Even before you unlock it, the XO-1 is able to get to 50 mph so it is probably a good idea to get used to driving it in the “Practice Mode” before you attempt to hit the 100 mph.
Simply put, the XO-1 is the world’s fastest Ready-To-Race® radio controlled Super Car.
I will be continuing to update my site often with new helpful information, so if you do not see exactly what you are looking for check back in a day or two or you can email me at matt@brushlessrcmotor.com and I will get back to you shortly.
Thanks for taking a look, there are many more pages on the drop down menu above.
I know there is a ton of technical information out there about Brushless Motors and some people have trouble understanding what applies to their Brushless RC setup. I hope that my site makes it a little easier to find some helpful information for your RC projects.
Take a look around my site and you will find a number of pages that explain everything from what Brushless RC Motors are and how they work to how to choose and set up various popular Brushless systems.
If you have any questions please email me and I will try to answer them as quickly as I can. matt@brushlessrcmotor.com
I also like to share some interesting ideas of how Brushless RC Motors can be used outside of the RC Hobby world. I have come across a few cool ideas over the years. I have seen people use brushless motors on things like Bikes that go 50 mph, Powered In-line Roller Skates, Power Wheel jeeps, and so on. Just use some imagination and you can come up with something crazy too.
I obviously am a huge fan of Brushless Motor setups myself so I will try to add some extra excitement to the content on this site. Be sure to check out my other pages of this site where I will also share with you some great pictures and videos of some extreme Brushless RC motor builds that I have come across.
A great example is the video above; in it you will see a German man who used Brushless RC Motors to build a one man Multi-Copter. The video shows him on its incredible first manned flight. I included this video to show you all what Brushless motors are capable of. The Picture below is my personal truck that I built back in 2003 and upgraded until 2005.
You might say that I got a little carried away but I enjoyed every minute of the build.

I will be posting some more information on Brushless Motor setups and some new videos of my RC projects soon so check back for updates.
